Library Loans: October 2017

Each month I do a little post to share with you some of the best titles I have borrowed from my local library service. Here's what I loved in October The Outcast Dead by Elly Griffiths Ruth Galloway uncovers the bones of what might be a notorious Victorian child murdress and a baby snatcher known as "The Childminder" threatens modern-day Norfolk in the latest irresistible mystery from Elly Griffiths. Forensic archaeologist Ruth Galloway uncovers the bones of a Victorian murderess while a baby snatcher threatens modern-day Norfolk in this exciting new entry in a beloved series. Every year a ceremony is held in Norwich for the bodies in the paupers' graves: the Service for the Outcast Dead. Ruth has a particular interest in this year's proceedings. Her recent dig at Norwich Castle turned up the body of the notorious Mother Hook, who was hanged in 1867 for the murder of five children. Now Ruth is the reluctant star of the TV series Women Who Kill

How I cured my book buying habit and an update

You may have noticed things around here have been a lot quieter than normal. I'm still here but things have changed for me blogging wise. I'm still reading but I'm getting much of my reading material from the library of late.  It's not to say that I don't love a review copy but I am enjoying the freedom to read what I like when I like. Browsing through the library shelves this year has got me reading a far wider range of books than I have previously and it is really nice to find these gems that I may have previously missed. One thing I actually love about joining the library is that is has really cracked my book buying habit. It's not to say that I'm not buying books but it does mean that I'm now only purchasing books that I adore rather than spending out lots and lots on books that I was reading once (or DNFing) before passing onto someone else. So what does this mean for the future of The Overflowing Library. For the time being I'll still be

Can't wait to read: the 2018 UKYA edition

I'm in that point of my year when the excitment about 2018 UKYA is real. I love it when 2018 titles start appearing through my door (thanks David Fickling - yours was first). It gives me something to look forward to in the dreary bit of the year when it's starting to get cold and miserable but it's too early to start thinking about Christmas. These are the 2018 UKYA titles I cannot wait to read. In your light by AJ Grainger Mella Laverty had been missing for eight months, six days and eighteen hours. Seventeen-year-old Lil's heart was broken when her big sister, Mella, went missing. Now she is 'Lil After' - angry, cold and dark. One especially dark and rainy night, Lil accidentally runs a strange girl, 'Seven' down in her car. Tiny, gentle, terrified Seven was born into the Sisterhood of the Light, a seemingly peaceful community that believes in the healing power of the sun. When a fire tore through the compound, Seven ran for her life,
