Review: Level 2 by Lenore Applehans

Three levels. Two loves. One choice. Debut novelist, Lenore Appelhans has written a thrilling otherworldly young adult novel about a place that exists between our world (Level 1) and what comes after life (Level 2).

'I pause to look around the hive - all the podlike chambers are lit up as the drones shoot up on memories ... I've wanted to get out of here before, but now the tight quarters start to choke me. There has to be more to death than this.'

Felicia Ward is dead. Trapped in a stark white afterlife limbo, she spends endless days replaying memories, of her family, friends, boyfriend ... and of the guy who broke her heart. The guy who has just broken into Level 2 to find her.

Felicia learns that a rebellion is brewing, and it seems she is the key. Suspended between heaven and earth, she must make a choice. Between two worlds, two lives and two loves.

My thoughts

I wanted to love this book. I really did but if I'm honest I didn't as much as I should have.

Don't get me wrong there is a lot going on for this book. It is highly original and has a cracking host of characters which I liked and were intrigued to find out more about. I enjoyed the writing style and liked getting all the flashbacks to their previous lives to find out more about them but for some reason I just didn't click as much as I would have hoped with the story as a whole.

Still lots of great ideas and a series which has the potential to be very strong so I will still be looking forward to carrying on with it in the future.

Comments

Ahh, it's a shame that this wasn't one that you truly loved. I've had this one on my TBR for a while and I know how upsetting it is when a book just doesn't reach the right expectations.
Here's hoping that the next books in the series get better and hook you in more. :-)
Lovely review Kirsty :)
